Our Eleventh Meeting

Ok, fellow audiophiles in the Las Vegas area and everywhere really (this is the world wide web after all,) the first audio club ever in Sin City, has now completed its eleventh meeting!

We had our eleventh meeting on this day, (6-14-14)

This time we took a private tour of Las Vegas' number 1 high end stereo and home theater store, Premiere Home Entertainment! Our host was Paul Helvin, Audio/Video Specialist.

Inside the fantastic state of the art facility we had a great time listening to tunes (mostly digital, with a few cuts on LP) on several different systems in just about all price ranges. Each system possessed many different strengths and tonal colors, and a wide variety of music and movies were played including Deep Purple, James Taylor, various classic jazz cuts, and more. Suffice it to say, each system was very well put together and sounded superb in their own way. Every member had their favorites, and you really couldn't go wrong with any of the equipment Premiere has on demo.

Paul turned out to be a great host who was very thorough and professional. He answered every question with no problem, and he wasn't snobby or stuffy. He did not have a sour attitude as some of the types you can come across in various other high end audio stores. He understands the needs and desires of dedicated audio and videophiles. He presented each demo perfectly. And that is what you should expect out of a high end stereo store manager; courtesy, respect, and knowledge. This stuff isn't cheap, you know.

So a BIG thanks to Paul and Kim (store owner) of Premiere Home Entertainment for making this event happen!

Be sure to visit Premiere on 6-28-14 for their 15th anniversary celebration and grand re-opening. There will be a barbeque, live music and DJ, plus a prize drawing and charity raffles. Also, there will be special package deals. So don't miss it!

Happy Memorial Day weekend from the LVAC

The LVAC wants to wish everyone a safe and fun filled Memorial Day weekend. Be sure to have good food and drink, and get those systems rockin'! Outdoors or indoors, it doesn't make a difference.
And please spare a moment to remember the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Without them, our freedom to indulge in recordings and high end audio would not be realized.

Our Tenth Meeting

Ok, fellow audiophiles in the Las Vegas area and everywhere really (this is the world wide web after all,) the first audio club ever in Sin City, has now completed its tenth meeting!

We had our tenth meeting this last Sunday, (which was 5-18-14)

This time LVAC Founder and President Dave (who hosted our first and sixth meeting) once again hosted the affair, with his very good 2 channel system.

We had a wonderful time listening to a variety of tunes (CD and LP) on Dave's system. Including a first pressing of Miles Davis' 'Kind of Blue' album from Dave's collection, an audiophile favorite. Something in the system was different this time around! Instead of Dave's usual Bryston gear, LVAC member Mike was kind enough to bring over a little firecracker of a tube amp, a modified Heathkit AA-151 integrated. To everyone's surprise, the system had plenty of that good ol' "midrange magic," much like most of the systems we've heard here at the LVAC! It was mesmerizing and grabbed your attention completely. So much so that the intended shoot-out between Dave's Bryston gear and the Heathkit was scrapped because the Heathkit was that damn good! It sounded and played very well with Dave's JBL S4700 speakers, a amazing feat for a 7 Wpc integrated! As par for the course, pizza (which Mike graciously brought over from Naked City Pizza here in Las Vegas) and soft drinks were
served. And yes, once again a good time was had by everyone.

Right now we have 12 members, and we're looking for a few more good audiophiles in the Vegas area and beyond.

Again, meetings will be once a month.

So, don't be shy, we'd love to have you for the next meeting, and as of now it's still free to join!

Whoops! Sorry about the dirty plate!

The Heathkit integrated in all its glory!

May meeting place and time set

Ok, the next meeting will be on Sunday, May 18th, 2014 from 2pm-5pm

The meeting will be at LVAC member Dave's place. If you recall, we had out first ever meeting there back in August of 2013. We also had a meeting there this last January. Since then, there have been newer members that have not heard Dave's system! Hence the reason for doing at his place once again.

In case you don't already know, Dave's system features JBL Synthesis loudspeakers aka high end JBLs, and Bryston amplification. The sound is big and bold, and plays as loud as you can stand it. Both analog and digital recordings will be played, evaluated, and enjoyed. Pizza and drinks will be served to satiate the appetite.

To add a little verve to the proceedings, LVAC member Mike will be bringing over his modified Heathkit AA-151 integrated amp and hooking it up to Dave's system. Yes, it will be an afternoon of tubes vs. solid state, vintage vs. modern, and integrated vs. separates. This could get very, very interesting indeed...

So, you don't wanna miss this!
