The LVAC wants to wish everyone a safe and fun filled Memorial Day weekend. Be sure to have good
food and drink, and get those systems rockin'! Outdoors or indoors, it doesn't make a difference.
And please spare a moment to remember the brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice. Without them, our freedom to indulge in recordings and high end audio would not be realized.
Las Vegas' first ever official audio club! Great systems, great sound, good food, and good times!

Our Tenth Meeting
Ok, fellow audiophiles in the Las Vegas area and everywhere really (this is the world wide web after all,) the first audio club ever in Sin City, has now completed its tenth meeting!
We had our tenth meeting this last Sunday, (which was 5-18-14)
This time LVAC Founder and President Dave (who hosted our first and sixth meeting) once again hosted the affair, with his very good 2 channel system.
We had a wonderful time listening to a variety of tunes (CD and LP) on Dave's system. Including a first pressing of Miles Davis' 'Kind of Blue' album from Dave's collection, an audiophile favorite. Something in the system was different this time around! Instead of Dave's usual Bryston gear, LVAC member Mike was kind enough to bring over a little firecracker of a tube amp, a modified Heathkit AA-151 integrated. To everyone's surprise, the system had plenty of that good ol' "midrange magic," much like most of the systems we've heard here at the LVAC! It was mesmerizing and grabbed your attention completely. So much so that the intended shoot-out between Dave's Bryston gear and the Heathkit was scrapped because the Heathkit was that damn good! It sounded and played very well with Dave's JBL S4700 speakers, a amazing feat for a 7 Wpc integrated! As par for the course, pizza (which Mike graciously brought over from Naked City Pizza here in Las Vegas) and soft drinks were
served. And yes, once again a good time was had by everyone.
Right now we have 12 members, and we're looking for a few more good audiophiles in the Vegas area and beyond.
Again, meetings will be once a month.
So, don't be shy, we'd love to have you for the next meeting, and as of now it's still free to join!
Any questions? email us at: dave_a_2005@hotmail.com or motorcitydeadman@gmail.com

May meeting place and time set
Ok, the next meeting will be on Sunday, May 18th, 2014 from 2pm-5pm
The meeting will be at LVAC member Dave's place. If you recall, we had out first ever meeting there back in August of 2013. We also had a meeting there this last January. Since then, there have been newer members that have not heard Dave's system! Hence the reason for doing at his place once again.
In case you don't already know, Dave's system features JBL Synthesis loudspeakers aka high end JBLs, and Bryston amplification. The sound is big and bold, and plays as loud as you can stand it. Both analog and digital recordings will be played, evaluated, and enjoyed. Pizza and drinks will be served to satiate the appetite.
To add a little verve to the proceedings, LVAC member Mike will be bringing over his modified Heathkit AA-151 integrated amp and hooking it up to Dave's system. Yes, it will be an afternoon of tubes vs. solid state, vintage vs. modern, and integrated vs. separates. This could get very, very interesting indeed...
So, you don't wanna miss this!

Our Ninth Meeting
Ok, fellow audiophiles in the Las Vegas area and everywhere really (this is the world wide web after all,) the first audio club ever in Sin City, has now completed its ninth meeting!
We had our ninth meeting 2 Saturdays ago, (which was 4-19-14)
This time LVAC member Tony (who hosted our fourth meeting) once again hosted the affair, with his excellent 2 channel system.
We had a wonderful time listening to a variety of tunes (via digital server, reel to reel tape, CD and LP) on Tony's system. The system had plenty of that good ol' "midrange magic," which you would have to hear to know what I'm talkin' about! It was mesmerizing and grabbed your attention completely. Gourmet pizza and beer was served, and it really was good times once again. Kudos to Tony for such a top notch presentation!
Photos of the system are below. Photos were taken by Tony.
The system was the same as the fourth meeting.
Link: http://lasvegasaudioclub.blogspot.com/2013/11/our-fourth-meeting.html
There are some slight changes to the system which Tony will elaborate on. Visual evidence is below.
"Set up remains basically unchanged from last meeting. Latest update is a wired Ethernet networked computer audio set up. First photo shows the Synology NAS that houses the server software and music folder, the MacMini that streams video, and an Ethernet switch that ties the NAS, MacMini, and Apple Airport Extreme Time Machine router (not pictured) together. Second photo shows the Resolution Audio Cantata Music Center with UPnP/DLNA rendering capabilities that is also wired via Ethernet to the switch. No music software or iTunes or any other pieces to get in the way of streaming the music. Ethernet provides the least path of resistance, especially versus USB. The last photo is the stacked decks that I now use for tape playback and recording."

Accuphase A-70 amplifier
Exciting news coming from the headquarters of Accuphase Laboratory, Inc. in Yokohama, Japan! They are pleased to announce the new release of the incredible Class A A-70 amplifier (which replaces the A-65.) One of the higher-ups @ Accuphase was so kind to send us an exclusive pdf file on the A-70. Needless to say, that on paper, this looks to be Accuphase's best stereo amplifier to date! And a strong contender for the world's best!
For your copy of the pdf file, email us at: dave_a_2005@hotmail.com or motorcitydeadman@gmail.com
Edit: There is also a different standard pdf file now on the Accuphase website!
http://www.accuphase.com/pdf/a-70_e.pdf
The A-70 will launch in the middle of this month in Japan. Other territories soon to follow.
For your convenience, here is the written part of the pdf without photos:
A-70 is a succession model of A-65 and the flag ship
class-A stereo power amplifier of Accuphase.
We already developed the flag ship class-A monophonic
power amplifier A-200 as 40 years anniversary model.
Technologies of A-200 were diverted to A-70.
In short, A-70 is stereo version of A-200.
The size of A-70 is as same as the former model A-65.
However A-70 is 1.3kg heavier than A-65 as chassis
structure is reinforced.
A-70 has digital power meters and 32-point LED bar
graph indications.
Digital power meter shows true output power without any
effect of speaker impedance.
2 pairs per channel of large speaker terminals are
equipped.
They are useful for bi-wired connection with loud
speakers.
Strong power supply by large Troidal transformer with
aluminum heat-radiation fins and 2 pieces of 82,000μF
capacitor are installed.
The chassis structure of A-70 was reinforced by 20mm x
15mm aluminum square bar on the front and back.
The continuous average output power is 60W into 8 ohm
load.
However A-70 has bigger headroom for maximum output
power. It is 131W into 8 ohm and 547W into 1 ohm.
A-70 is the super high power amplifier.
A-70 has the lowest noise performance in the 41 years’
history of Accuphase stereo power amplifier.
Our first stereo power amplifier P-300 launched in 1973
has 40μV of noise voltage.
41 years later, A-70 achieves 13μV at last.
This is the half of the former model A-65.
The output noise is reduced by some technologies.
Optimizing gain allocation of 2 amplifier blocks
constructed with instrumentation amplifier.
Enhancing gain of balanced input amplifier block from 4
times to 12.6 times.
Output noise voltage is ideally decreased to 33%.
The output noise is also reduced by the discrete
configuration amplifier which IC is not installed on signal
path.
A-70 has the highest Damping-Factor specification in the
41 years’ history of Accuphase stereo power amplifier.
DF of P-300 in 1973 was 60.
After 41 years, A-70 achieves 800 of DF.
This is 2 times higher than the former model A-65.
This is guaranteed specification. In actuality A-70 has
1,000 of DF.
*Damping-Factor, DF:
A index of speaker driving ability. Higher Damping-Factor
amplifier has higher speaker driving ability.
DF = 8 ohm / Output-impedance
The Output impedance is decreased by 10 parallel pushpull
output stage arrangement of MOS-FET.
Remote-sensing is the technique to lower output
impedance of amplifier by the negative feedback with
signal sensing from close up the speaker terminals.
Balanced Remote-sensing is the technique to make
impedance even lower by GND sensing and the negative
feedback of GND level with adding the signal sensing.
Not only Damping-factor is improved but also Total
Harmonic Distortion and Intermodulation Distortion get
better by Balanced Remote-sensing.
Mechanical relay is the most common for speaker
protection. It does not have good reliability and so lower
contact resistance either.
A-70 employed MOS-FET switch instead of mechanical
relay for speaker protection.
Damping-Factor, reliability and sound quality are
improved thanks to MOS-FET switch.
Some other very low impedance/resistance components
which are chosen for A-70 are large speaker terminal,
rectangular wire coil and so on.
Making signal path thick and short attains having low
impedance.
