October meeting place and time set *rescheduled*

Ok, fellow audiophiles from Las Vegas (and Southern Nevada in general,) we have determined where and when our next meeting will be at! Below are the details and whatnot. Thanks as always for looking.

The October LVAC meeting will be rescheduled from Sunday, 10-18-15 from 2-5 pm PST to Sunday, 10-25-15 from 2-5 pm PST. The meeting will still be held at the latest (and greatest?) high end audio store here in Las Vegas, Audio Visual Solutions! Greg, the store manager, will give the club a guided tour of the establishment and all of the wonderful sights and sounds therein. He will also be speaking to the club as well about various audio-related topics.

The major lines they carry are McIntosh (Platinum Dealer) Monitor Audio, Krell, Sonus Faber, PS Audio, Sony (Audio and TVs), Klipsch, Jamo, Pioneer Elite, Yamaha, Integra, Onkyo, Control4, Salamander Designs and many others. They are considering other major lines to represent. Quite a heavy hitting lineup to say the least!

Greg will also provide refreshments as par for the course.

This is a special event, so don't miss this! Be there or be square, as they say.

To get an idea of what their systems are like, please view the photos below.

T.H.E. Show Newport Beach, CA 2015

http://theshownewport.com/

First, a show wrap-up by LVAC member, Nick:

For me (Terry-fellow LVAC member-was doing his thing for a while) the most pleasant surprise at the show was the Stein Music room. Holger Stein and his wife, who are from Germany, were demoing their system and the sound was very natural and engaging. The soundstage was excellent with lots of detail. I was only able to listen to a few orchestral cuts as well as a little Bob Dylan and a female artist named Youn Sun Nah. I can't speak regarding the bass response, the the midrange and top end were spot on. What's also interesting is that Mr Stein designed all of the components including the speakers. It was digital only, but he also showed me a 2 box phono stage that I believe will retail for under $2,000. He also has a cartridge. I can't say that I recall any other designer who "does it all".

The Odyssey room was interesting as the sound was good and Klaus at Odyssey did a great job making it sound as good as it did as it was the strangest shaped room I recall seeing at any show. It was the second time I've met Klaus and he's a fun and engaging guy. He also makes a stand for a great price so my equipment will finally have a good home.

I've always been interested in the Sonus Faber speakers and this time they were paired together with McIntosh. There was also a single piece from Audio Research which may have been a music server. The sound was good, but it was a rectangular room and we were seated too close to the speakers and that didn't allow the speakers to shine as I've heard great sound from Sonus Faber at other shows.

This was the first time I've ever been at the Newport Show and I was only there Saturday and Sunday, but I truly had a great time. Terry was lots of fun and I may go back next year as my brother lives very close by...and I love free room and board.

As I was in California, I bought some lotto tickets so I might be able to buy my dream system. But I didn't quite win anything. My dream system might well consist of DartZeel with Sonus Faber speakers or maybe Magico or. I can't say that I've ever demoed any reference speakers in my home although I love my SP Tech Timepiece speakers and my modded McCormack DNA 1.0 amp as well. That's it for now.

Happy New Year from the LVAC

From all of us here at the LVAC; have yourselves a safe and fun filled New Year's! Be sure to have good food and drink, and get those systems rockin' in the New Year! You know we will! 2014 was a great year for us here at the LVAC; we celebrated our 1 year anniversary among other things. However, 2015 looks to be an even more exciting year for the audio industry, for audiophiles, and therefore, for the LVAC. We look for the club to grow and expand, to have more special events, and enrich the lives of more audiophiles in the Las Vegas (and beyond) area. There will be some incredible and innovative products at CES here in Las Vegas, which is right around the corner (Jan 6th-9th, 2015.) A number of us will be at the show, so feel free to come up and say hello. We are also going to attempt to include photos of some of the great gear at CES here in this blog. We did it last year, so why not for 2015? Stay tuned.

Our Eleventh Meeting

Ok, fellow audiophiles in the Las Vegas area and everywhere really (this is the world wide web after all,) the first audio club ever in Sin City, has now completed its eleventh meeting!

We had our eleventh meeting on this day, (6-14-14)

This time we took a private tour of Las Vegas' number 1 high end stereo and home theater store, Premiere Home Entertainment! Our host was Paul Helvin, Audio/Video Specialist.

Inside the fantastic state of the art facility we had a great time listening to tunes (mostly digital, with a few cuts on LP) on several different systems in just about all price ranges. Each system possessed many different strengths and tonal colors, and a wide variety of music and movies were played including Deep Purple, James Taylor, various classic jazz cuts, and more. Suffice it to say, each system was very well put together and sounded superb in their own way. Every member had their favorites, and you really couldn't go wrong with any of the equipment Premiere has on demo.

Paul turned out to be a great host who was very thorough and professional. He answered every question with no problem, and he wasn't snobby or stuffy. He did not have a sour attitude as some of the types you can come across in various other high end audio stores. He understands the needs and desires of dedicated audio and videophiles. He presented each demo perfectly. And that is what you should expect out of a high end stereo store manager; courtesy, respect, and knowledge. This stuff isn't cheap, you know.

So a BIG thanks to Paul and Kim (store owner) of Premiere Home Entertainment for making this event happen!

Be sure to visit Premiere on 6-28-14 for their 15th anniversary celebration and grand re-opening. There will be a barbeque, live music and DJ, plus a prize drawing and charity raffles. Also, there will be special package deals. So don't miss it!
